Linkert M55 replacement for 1936-1939 knucklehead

1936-1939 E & EL 1950’s FIELD REPLACEMENT FOR THE M5

The M55 is a Factory OEM 1950’s boxed replacement for M5’s not installed directly on Knuckleheads by the factory but sold to and installed by H-D dealers for their customer’s motorcycles. Or sold directly to their customers.

In the 1950’s the factory wouldn’t assemble the M55 with original high and low speed needles, nor would they plate the M55 and small parts Nickel.  The M55’s body would have been painted black and the small parts cadmium plated. And the high-speed needle would have been the replacement needles produced after 1947. And a natural aluminum finish to the fuel float bowl, likewise an OHV type 3 fuel bowl would have been used. (Boxed carburetors from the factory often had body plugs natural brass.)

The original Knucklehead attachments to the carburetor like the fuel filter, possibly the throttle lever and cable block, the intake manifold, fuel bowl nut and lock washer for the carb support would still be nickel plated from original Knucklehead. (Denoting the knucklehead this M55 was installed on was a 1936 up to1941 when nickel was still in use).
