1941 BRASS INTAKE MANIFOLD INFORMATION
The #1108-42 pipe is the first exception as it was made from brass in the 1941. However, it was quickly discovered that the brass inlet bushing did not slide easily on the brass inlet pipe. Due to the resistance between the two brass pieces, the bushing would quickly push up a lip on the edge of the pipe causing the bushing to stop moving. Then the manifold nut would climb up on the bushing and the bushing would cut into or cause the pipe to collapse allowing the manifold to leak and ruin the pipe. The brass inlet pipe was soon replaced by a cast iron one for 1942-1947 models, but until the new pipe was available, all future 1941 models were assembled with the brass pipe and bushing well oiled. This also led to the practice of testing all production models for air leaks by squirting oil over the inlet nuts.
